Leadership Development Camp
Leadership Development Camp
Ages 13-16
This week of camp is mandatory for all the teens who wish to work on staff as counsellors in the future. This week teaches what a real team looks like. The teams of LDC I and LDC II are put through very difficult challenges. The goals of the challenges are not simply to beat the challenge but to work together as a team to do so. Both LDC I and II make a shelter in the bush that they will live in. LDC I stays in their shelter two nights while LDC II stays in their shelter three nights. LDC I has classes some mornings that teach them how to do various skills like tying knots, building a water-resistant shelter, first-aid and other essential skills for their time in the bush. LDC II is expected to know these skills from the previous year. Each challenge brings out a different aspect of what it means to be a team and be a leader. Creating a safe environment within the team, where everyone’s voice is heard and no one is afraid to give an idea, is essential for success as a team. This week teaches what unity looks like in a team all striving for one goal while being loyal to each other and helping each other to achieve that goal.
The Bible teaches unity and loyalty. The campers learn that not leaving anyone behind is much more important than completing the challenge set before them. The lessons they learn during these weeks of camp they can then use to be godly leaders in their church, school, and at home. It is so much more important who you are than simply what you do.
